High School Courses

APISD Distance Learning Grading Procedures for High School Courses

Grading Requirements:

High School teachers will collect at least 1 grade per week.

All high school grades will be based on a numerical scale of 100.

All assignment grades will be weighted equally.

Semesters I and II will be averaged together to determine final grades for year-long courses. Students passing for the year will receive credit for both semesters.

Students not making progress or not completing academic lessons may be eligible for summer school or virtual school.

Assignment Support:

Due to the unique circumstances with COVID-19, each of our teachers will follow these guidelines to support students that are missing assignments or need additional support.

  1. All students will have multiple days for submitting assigned work due to the virtual learning being new to teachers and students.

  2. Students will be allowed to complete virtual work or a paper packet version of the lesson.

  3. Students will have weekly support and contacts. Teachers will be available Monday through Friday to answer questions and communicate through various platforms. (Google classroom, Remind, email, Zoom, etc.)

Parent/Student Information:

  1. All students have the option of working online or receiving a paper packet.

  2. Paper packets will be available for pickup and drop off (completed work) weekly: Mondays 8AM-4PM at APHS.

  3. Students and parents are asked to communicate with the teachers about academic packets or lessons. Teacher emails are available on school website.

  4. Parents are asked to encourage students to meet timelines and guidelines for lessons.

  5. If deadline is not met, students will receive an “I” (incomplete) until the assigned work or alternative assignment is completed.

  6. For the 5th six weeks grading period, students who either do not participate in home instruction or are not passing based on numerical grades at the end of the grading period will receive an Incomplete (I).

  7. Students with a grade of “I” (incomplete) will have adequate time based on teacher support.

  8. Teachers will document all attempts with students that are not actively completing lessons or making progress before assigning a failure grade.

  9. Each situation with illness, family situation, and or technology issues need to be communicated with the teacher, so a plan of action can be implemented to support each student.

  10. Edgenuity classes and Dual Credit classes will proceed unchanged. Contact Coach Seidel or Ms. Casterline as needed.

  11. Senior Ranks and GPA will be addressed via Board Policy resolution for the 2019-2020 school year.

  12. If SENIORS do not participate in at home instruction, the student will receive an “incomplete” for the course. All courses needed for graduation must be completed by May 18, 2020, in order to be considered for graduation. Any incomplete courses will trigger an Individual Graduation Plan (IGC) meeting to review the student’s transcript to determine if the student meets graduation eligibility criteria.

  13. Any student enrolled in an EOC course must complete the course by May 18, 2020, and have an overall average of passing in order to be exempt from taking the STAAR EOC assessment.
