Elementary & Middle School Courses

APISD Distance Learning Grading Procedures for Elementary and Middle School Courses

Grading Requirements:

Teachers will collect 1 grade per week per subject. All grades will be weighted equally.

Grades assigned will be graded as Pass or Incomplete.

Students not making progress or not completing academic lessons may be eligible for summer school or virtual school.

Assignment Support:

Due to the unique circumstances with COVID-19, each of our teachers will follow these guidelines to support students that are missing assignments or need of additional support.

  1. All students will have multiple days for submitting assigned work due to distance learning being new to teachers, parents and students.

  2. Middle school students will be allowed to complete virtual work or a paper packet version of the lesson. Elementary students will complete a paper packet or choice board and may turn them in electronically or drop them off at the school.

  3. Students will have weekly support and contacts. Teachers will be available Monday through Friday to answer questions and communicate through various platforms. (Google classroom, Remind, email, Zoom, etc.)

Parent/Student Information:

  1. Paper packets will be available for pickup and drop off (completed work) on a two-week rotation.

  2. Students and parents are asked to communicate with the teachers about academic packets or lessons. Teacher emails are available on school website.

  3. Parents are asked to encourage students to meet timelines and guidelines for lessons.

  4. If deadline is not met, students will receive an “I” (incomplete) until the assigned work is completed.

  5. Students with a grade of “I” (incomplete) will receive additional teacher support.

  6. Teachers will document all attempts with students that are not actively completing lessons or making progress before assigning a grade.

  7. Each situation with illness, family situation, and or technology issues need to be communicated with the teacher, so a plan of action can be implemented to support each student.

  8. Middle school students taking courses for high school credit will receive grades for those courses according to the high school grading policy. These courses are Algebra-8th Grade, BIM-8th Grade, Spanish-8th Grade, Art 1- 8th Grade and Health-7th Grade.
