Travel Information

The workshop venue is the Department of Physics of the University of Helsinki, located in the Physicum building (Gustaf Hällströmin katu 2) of the Kumpula campus. The Helsinki Institute of Physics (where most of the relevant office space resides) is situated in the same building and can be found from the third floor adjacent to the particle physics and astrophysics corridors.

The Kumpula campus is easily reachable from the city center with public transportation. One can use the HSL Journey Planner or Google Maps to plan the optimal route to the workshop venue.

Accommodation for the participants is organized at the Töölö Towers guest house of the university (Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 23 A). It is connected to Kumpula by a direct bus route 70, taking about 15 minutes one way.

The workshop dinner will be organized at restaurant Meripaviljonki at 7pm on Tuesday 25 October, and will be free of charge for all invited participants. The restaurant is reachable from the Kumpula campus by more than 10 direct bus lines, with the ride taking about 10 minutes.

Local transport: To get from the airport to Töölö Towers, the easiest ways are to get a direct taxi (about 40€) or a train to the Helsinki main railway station, from which there is an approx. 1.5km walk to the hotel. More information about these connections can be found from the Finavia web site.

When in Helsinki, it is advisable to buy a local transportation (HSL) ticket valid for as many days as you need it. These can be purchased by either downloading the HSL app to your mobile phone (credit card required) or by purchasing a disposable card from a nearby shop. A map showing the locations of shops selling such tickets can be found here, and the closest one to Töölö Towers appears to be an "R-kioski" located at Runeberginkatu 41, some 200m from Töölö Towers.
