Mrs. McAvoy has been a school counselor with the district since 2003! She has worked at all three levels for the district. If you ask her, she can honestly say that the middle school age group is the best. Maybe it’s because the students are dealing with so many complex issues or maybe it’s simply because it’s a wonderful place to come to work every day.

If you’ve ever been to her office you know that she is a huge fan of dogs Mrs. McAvoy has three dogs and wouldn’t mind a couple more!! She is a firm believer that every day is an opportunity to be better than you were the day before. This is why she enjoys counseling so much; to have the opportunity to share that message every day.

WHAT DOES A SCHOOL COUNSELOR DO?

School counselors are highly educated, professionally certified individuals who help students succeed in school and plan their career. An integral part of the total education system, school counselors help students form healthy goals, mindsets and behaviors. With the aid of a school counselor, students learn to develop effective collaboration and cooperation skills, to practice perseverance, to develop time management and study skills, and to learn self-motivation and self-direction habits.
