From the inception of the National Māori Netball Tournament in 1988, coordination of Māori netball in the Aotea region was overseen by the Māori Women's Welfare League (MWWL) - Te Wahine Toko i te Ora Aotea Regional Council. Te Rau Poitarawhiti o Aotea was established in 2011 as a branch of the MWWL and continued to coordinate Māori netball in the region through to 2015. Following a lapse in branch membership, volunteers continued to coordinate activities as a stand-alone group through to the end of 2019. In January of 2020, a board of Trustees was formed and Aotea Māori Netball was incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 and registered as a Charity with the Charities Commission. Preparation for National Tournament is delegated to our team of Coordinators while Trustees focus on strategic direction, sourcing funding and ensuring the kaupapa of AMNOHL is maintained.
