Frequently Asked Questions

This is a page for answering questions that come up as we begin the portfolio building process. This list will be updated as necessary.

Q. Must every individual piece of evidence in the portfolio demonstrate proficiency in that standard?

A. No. Some pieces of evidence may not meet every indicator of the standard, but may be included to show a stage in the student's journey toward proficiency. Some pieces of student work may not individually constitute evidence of proficiency but could be combined with others to meet all indicators.

Q. Must all reflections be written?

A. No, a reflection can be a recording of the student oral reflection. The purpose of the reflection is to help students think about their progress and to remind them of their process when it's time to defend the portfolio.

Q. Can a piece of evidence be used for more than one standard?

A. Yes, it's possible that a complex project could provide evidence for more than one standard. The student can upload a copy of the work to another folder (or link to it) with the appropriate rubric for that standard and a separate reflection that shows the student's thinking about how the work provides evidence for that standard.
