Guide
1. Depending on the order that teachers experience the surface, deep and transfer learning sessions, introduce or review the first three slides/images.
2. Read quotes. What are students doing? What are teachers doing?
3. The goal for deep learning is to foster self-regulation and metacognition. It's characterized by thinking slow--stopping, looking, listening and focusing.
3. Note practices that facilitate deep learning in image/slide 4.
4. Distribute the article and divide into 4 groups to focus on 4 sections -
concept mapping, discussion and questioning, metacognitive strategies, and reciprocal teaching. Alternatively, there are three videos that you could watch and discuss instead.
5. Provide time for reading/watching. If reading, ask each group to briefly explain their section. Ask the whole group to use the Language Frame/Stem Examples as a discussion tool.
