Overview
Title I is a federal program that provides funds to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are disadvantaged to support a variety of services. Its overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments.
Program Elements
Critical program elements are:
District Parent/Family Involvement Policy
Title 1 Parent/Family Brochure
School and ParentFamily Compact
Title I Parent/Family Involvement Plan
Title I Parent/Family Notification
Title 1 Policy Statement
All AOS 93 schools, in accordance with Board policy, encourage parental involvement in all school activities and programs to promote successful school experiences for both parents and students.
Communication
Throughout the year parents of Title 1 students are informed of and invited to activities that give you a better understanding of what is expected of your children and the type of instruction your children are receiving.
Parents are given tools to work with your children in the areas of reading and math. Activities that occur to meet the schools’ Title 1 parent involvement requirements are:
• Open Houses
• Presentations at Parent/ Teacher Organizations (PTOs)
• Title 1 Family Pizza Night
• School Newsletters
• AOS 93 Title 1 Website
At the end of the year a survey is distributed to parents for feedback on Title 1 program services that have been provided to you and your child. This helps us to review and improve the Title 1 program.
We welcome parent participation, feedback and involvement.
Feel free to contact the Title 1 staff any time by calling your school’s office or Tara Mckechnie at 207 563-3044 or tmckechnie@aos93.org

Highly Qualified Teachers
Through federal education law, parents have the right to request information on the professional qualifications of the teachers and paraprofessionals in our schools. If you are interested in learning about this information, please contact your school administrator. Upon this request, you will receive a detailed explanation of the licensing, education, and experience of each of our teachers. You will also receive information regarding the qualifications of the paraprofessionals at our schools.
Our staff understands that learning is a life-long pursuit. Teachers in AOS 93 continually strive to improve by taking part in professional development, graduate courses, conferences and professional learning.
