Every other year, schools across Maine, and other states in the country, are randomly selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing. Winslow's grade 4 students were selected in 2024. Late this summer, we received notice (see below) that Winslow Public Schools has again been selected to participate in NAEP testing for the 2025-2026 school year. Testing will occur in grades 4 and 8 and cover both reading and math.

Thank you for all you do to support education in Maine. I am writing to inform you that Winslow Elementary School has been selected by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to participate in the 2026 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP is administered by NCES, within the U.S. Department of Education. The selected schools reflect schools nationwide and provide a sample of student performance. For the 2026 test administration, NCES has selected 204 Maine schools representing 117 SAUs. NAEP data is used for national and state-by-state comparisons.
NAEP 2026 Program Overview
NAEP will assess students between January 26, and March 20, 2026 in sampled schools. NAEP 2026 will include two main assessment programs and pilot assessments for the field testing of future mathematics and reading assessment items. State and national results will be released as The Nation’s Report Card.
Designated NAEP School Coordinators will receive the list of selected students in early December. Each selected student will participate in only one subject of the assessment.
