McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
More Information about McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
"The Maine Department of Education and Maine schools follow the provisions of the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, which aims to minimize the educational disruptions experienced by students experiencing housing instability." The public school system will work to ensure that homeless children and youth are identified, enrolled in, and have full and equal access to succeed in school.
Here is a partial list of what the McKinney-Vento homeless liaison can do to assist students:
Provide support in accessing their education
Support referrals for health care, mental health support, and housing
Arrange transportation services
Inform students and their families of their educational rights
If you believe you may be eligible for services and support under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistant Act, please contact Mary Ellen Seymour at 207-825-3397 or write to m.seymour@aos47.org
