Our department coordinates Special Education, Section 504, and McKinney-Vento Homelessness Programs for the Airline, Dedham, and Orrington school systems.

Special Education

What is Special Education?

Special Education is specially designed instruction that addresses the unique needs of a student who is eligible to receive special education services. These services are provided at no cost to the parent, and includes the related services necessary to support a child's access to the curriculum.

Section 504


What is Section 504?

Section 504 is part of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The purpose of this law is to provide equal and meaningful access for people with disabilities.

McKinney-Vento

Public school students who "lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence" are guaranteed access to a free and appropriate public education. The public school can help to limit disruption in their education and the risk to students missing instruction during this instability period.
