The MFA Program based out of Los Angeles follows a low-residency model that takes place over 2 years. Between residencies, participation is entirely remote.

Apply to the MFA program when you have 12-30 credits remaining in your BA degree
If you are provisionally accepted, once you have only 12 credits to complete your BA degree, you can enroll in a 12-credit semester that begins with a Fall (December) or Spring (June) residency. These 12 credits fulfill both the BA requirements and MFA requirements
Students who complete those 12 credits then earn the BA and become fully-admitted graduate students.
You can apply to begin the MFA pathway during any semester. However, check the priority and rolling application due dates here, and consult with your Undergraduate Advisor about the best time to apply.
MFA Program Contact: Alistair McCartney (amccartney@antioch.edu)
Pathway Process Details
The BA program has a PATHWAY CHECKLIST for MFA applicants that can help undergraduates and their advisors determine what must be completed before the pathway term in the graduate program.
Undergraduate students interested in the MFA pathway are encouraged to pursue a concentration in Creative Writing within the BA in Liberal Studies Program. Although not required, all applicants are recommended to have completed coursework in creative writing before applying.
Provisionally accepted pathway candidates will enroll in the required 12 credit semester curriculum for entering MFA students. All MFA students are full-time. Students must complete these courses in one semester. Once successfully completed, these 12 credits will represent completion of 12 credits toward the student’s BA degree. These same credits will also apply toward the single integrated MFA degree. If they do not successfully complete the first MFA semester, pathway students will need to complete their remaining BA credits in the undergraduate program. If they wish, they could reapply to the MFA through the regular admissions process once the BA is complete.
