Are you ready to get started with accessing our services?
This guide will point you in the right direction for your needs.
You can get feedback on your writing in person, via phone or Zoom appointments, or in the form of written comments through the Virtual Writing Center.
Click each collapsible list for instructions.
PLEASE NOTE: If you have a longer paper (12+ pages), you may not be able to review every aspect of it in a typical hour-long session with a peer consultant. However, you are welcome to reserve more frequent sessions as you progress through your revision process!
Scheduling a Zoom, Phone, or Face-to-Face Appointment
Visit our WCOnline Appointment System to reserve a session during scheduled Writing Center hours. The first time you use the system you will need to register, which you can do directly here.
When you sign in to the system you will see the Writing Center Schedule for the next seven days with today at the top (you can scroll ahead to see future weeks).
To make an appointment, click on any open (white) time block when you want your session to begin and fill out the reservation form (which will open in a new window).
You can reserve any block of time between 60 and 120 minutes, beginning on the hour or the half-hour. Most sessions beyond short questions will require 45-60 minutes. Our appointments end approximately 10 minutes before the session to complete paperwork and transition to the next session, so plan accordingly! More time is better than less.
If you want a repeating appointment at the same time each week with the same consultant, just ask during your session and they can get you set up!
Submitting a document through the Virtual Writing Center
The VWC is available to all Antioch University students regardless of campus. A consultant will provide written comments as an alternative to, in addition to, or in combination with face-to-face appointments. When submitting your paper to the VWC, expect to receive comments within about 48 hours of submission.
Go to the VWC login page.
Log in or create an account using your Antioch Gmail address if it is your first visit.
Click on "First Submission Form" and fill out the form to upload a new piece of writing (or use the Second and Third Submission Forms to submit revisions of a piece you submitted earlier).
*If you have difficulty accessing the VWC, please email vwc@antioch.edu, including a description of the problem you have encountered as well as screenshots of any error messages you received, if possible.
Accessing paid editing services for your dissertation, thesis, or other piece for publication
The Writers' Exchange (WEX) has a staff of professional editors, proofreaders, and writing coaches with expertise in a variety of academic and professional writing and format styles. These writing specialists have the qualifications to examine and polish your writing thoroughly and expertly and can also provide services that peer support cannot (professional style editing and proofreading for example). They are also available to work on entire dissertations and theses, something that is prohibitively time-consuming for peer readers.
Support is available both in-person and virtually. Because of the scope of these documents, we recommend that you review your work through a series of appointments with the same person over a period of weeks or months. It is important to note that particular requirements for theses and dissertations are program-specific, and questions about those areas are best directed to your adviser.
