We are excited to announce to you that we have opened up Accelerated Reader (AR) for your children for this school year. Your students can utilize AR just like their peers, who are following the Hybrid Schedule in the buildings. All Anthony Wayne Online Academy students will have access to the Renaissance Learning platform, which AR is a part of. This program encourages reading fluency and comprehension by allowing students to take short comprehension quizzes and earn points after they read books. As we work to continue to align with the other primary buildings we will also be asking all AWOA students to take the STAR Reading test within the Renaissance Learning Platform. This is a norm-referenced assessment we will be using to monitor individuals student growth using three different testing times during the school year (fall- winter- spring).

During the week of September 7th we are asking students to:

• Students in Kdg and 1st Grade: take the STAR Early Literacy Assessment

• Students in 2nd through 4th Grade: take the STAR Reading Assessment

You will be prompted to put in an administrative password as we typically don’t allow this assessment to be taken out of our buildings. The administrative password is: AWOA, please notice it is all capital letters.

This assessment should take your child approximately 30 minutes. We are asking students to complete this independently but they can certainly receive assistance logging into the platform. Please make sure that your student completes his/her STAR Early Literacy (students in Kindergarten and First Grade) or the STAR Reading Assessment (students in Second through Fourth Grade) by 3:00 PM on Friday, September 11th, 2020.
