Physical Education 7 & 8
In this course, lifelong fitness is encouraged, students will participate in activities such as basketball, floor hockey, volleyball, flag football, handball, badminton, softball, and be tested for the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge. Students will also be taught leadership skills and play cooperative games such as long base and dodgeball, which incorporates how to be a good leader and team player. Students will participate in fitness-related activities on a regular basis including daily endurance and strength and flexibility exercises. All students are required to be dressed in appropriate physical education clothes and participate in all activities unless a medical excuse, signed by a physician is on file with the school nurse. Classes will meet every day for one semester in both the 7th and 8th-grade years.

In this course, the students will be learning about a variety of current health issues such as life long fitness, nutrition, communicable diseases, self-esteem, body systems, and stress and anger management. Students will also learn how to improve peer and family relations, and communication skills. In addition, guest speakers will present topics such as drug and alcohol use, depression, and violence. Group and partner interaction will be a big part of the daily lessons. Students will also be required to participate in a group health research project.
