Eye safety is one of the most importatn aspects of working in a lab with liquid chemical hazards. General Chemistry has plenty of these with strong acids and bases that are used many times.
You can buy your own by searching "indirect vent goggles".
It is important that your eye protection gear cover and seal around your eyes.
Direct vent are NOT allowed only INDIRECT VENT.
Indirect vent means that the liquids have to go around an obstacle or change directions before encountering your eye. This allows for air exchange, but greatly reduces the splashing of liquids into your eye. These are not good for swimming underwater. :-)
Safety glasses are very popular, breath well, and protect your eyes from impacts. We need more than that in the chemistry lab since we could have flying solids from explosions, but we have the additional need to protect agains liquids.
Note: This sign is showing safety glasses. These are not allowed and this sign is incorrect.
You can search Google and Amazon for "indirect vent goggles".
Uvex is a popular and "stylish" brand.
We will sell some of these for ~$20 at the first lab of the semester.
A wide variety exists out there, and you probably can find some for cheaper. But we have done the research and bought some that work well.
