Favorite Animals

Moose

Preferably cartoon or stuffed, but real ones are still cool. The moose is a perfect combination of power and elegance.

Quokka

Admit it, it's your favorite now too. As the animal that's always smiling, the quokka is sure to cheer you up on a sad day.

Ankylosaurus

My favorite dinosaur by far, the ankylosaurus is the ideal pet to slay your enemies, with a spiky shield as a back and a club as a tail.

Favorite Movies

These are the movies I enjoyed most. For what I believe is the objectively best movie, see my essay on Inception. See my full list of movies for more.

The Dark Knight

Batman is my favorite superhero, and his best movie is also my favorite movie. It has an incredible story, the most memorable villain ever, brilliant dialogue, great action and music, and a flawless opening and ending.

Deadpool

Deadpool is a perfect blend of action and comedy, a brilliant subversion of superhero movies as well as a pleasure to watch thanks to a charismatic performance by Ryan Reynolds.

Kingsman: The Secret Service

Perhaps the finest stylized action movie, Kingsman has beautiful fight choreography and a fantastic cast, especially Sam L. Jackson as the most entertaining villain ever.

Favorite Composers

Hans Zimmer

With an uncanny ability to create music that is controlled yet powerful and, thanks in part to Christopher Nolan, a body of work that is as inventive as it is extraordinary, Hans Zimmer is a behemoth in the movie industry unmatched by all except perhaps John Williams.

Favorite Songs: 1. Time 2. Chevaliers De Sangreal 3. The Man, The Legend / Touchdown 4. Drink Up Me Hearties Yo Ho 5. A Watchful Guardian

Thomas Bergensen

The mastermind behind Two Steps from Hell (sorry Nick Phoenix), Thomas is a master of creating epic music, with hundreds of fantastic melodies that would go perfectly on the soundtrack of any film.

Favorite Songs: 1. Victory 2. Blackheart 3. Heart of Courage 4. Unbreakable 5. Flight of the Silverbird

John Williams

Arguably the greatest and most well-known film composer of all time, John Williams, thanks to partnering with Steven Spielberg for pretty much every movie, is the name behind nearly every iconic theme you know. Harry Potter? John Williams. Star Wars? Indiana Jones? Jaws? Superman? Jurassic Park? E.T.? All John. He specializes in music that is explosive and grand.

Favorite Songs: 1. Welcome to Jurassic Park 2. Theme from Schindler's List 3. Duel of the Fates 4. Buckbeak's Flight 5. Raiders March

Favorite Colors

Yellow

From Pikachu to SpongeBob, yellow is the color of my childhood and will always be my favorite. I eat from yellow bowls and save yellow Fruit Loops and Skittles for last even though I can't taste a difference.

Gray

For perhaps no other reason than it goes fantastically with yellow, gray (not grey) is a color I really like. It's equally mysterious and joyful, and a cross between dark and light, a true color of balance.

Favorite Numbers

No, these aren't my passwords.

58

"58 is like the luckiest number ever." -Patrick Star. 5 and 8 are my favorite digits, so when one of my favorite fictional characters makes such a profound claim, it's bound to be my favorite number. In addition, 83+8×52=712, and 7/12≈0.58, i.e. you can make 58 as a decimal with just 5s and 8s.

73

Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory explains why quite nicely.

6

6 is, literally, a perfect number (with both addition and multiplication), and a divisor of minutes, hours, degrees, and more.

2

As the only even prime number, 2 is the 1 of even numbers. It's useful for evenly dividing anything, and the world deals in halves. Two hands, a left side and a right side, hemispheres of the globe, top and bottom. Moreover, it's brilliant mathematically, as 2+2=2×2=22.

Favorite Number Systems

Hexadecimal (Base 16)

The gold medalist, hex works mnemonically in addition to mathematically. If you break up a binary string into groups of 4 and convert each group into a hex digit, the resulting hex string is equal to the binary number. This is incredibly useful for encoding colors for computers and many other tasks, since it can break down large numbers into parts.

Binary (Base 2)

The silver medalist, binary is so useful because so many things in life are dichotomies. In addition to being the base of computer programming and integers, each place can represent on/off, left/right, up/down, etc. You can use binary to get visual representation of everyday things.

Senary (Base 6)

The bronze medalist, senary is a nice balance of everything. Multiplication and division work really well, it's a really efficient system for encoding large numbers, and it can be counted on one hand, like base 10 (using a fist as 6). It loses to binary and hex solely because of its lack of applications in the real world.

Favorite Foods

Meat

My two favorites are filet mignon (generally 12oz, cooked medium rare) and chicken stir fry (usually with teriyaki sauce). I like to eat enough meat to make up for the vegetarians. Pictured are both, cooked by my dad, a professional chef. Preferred sides include mashed potatoes, spaghetti, and rice, in that order. I generally won't touch vegetables, but I'll eat carrots. I also eat the top halves of broccoli ⇔ they're drenched in butter.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

My mom makes great ones, so good that the debate team would request them for tournaments (pictured). I prefer slightly crunchy on the outer rim but soft and ever so slightly chewy on the inside. I prefer milk chocolate over dark chocolate. Aside from this, other preferred desserts (though I'm not really a dessert person) include Milanos (double milk chocolate), Oreos (generally double stuff), and Kit-Kats. My metabolism is kind of crazy.
