We work with a wide variety of clients on an equally wide variety of projects, and we've found that these are the keys to successful engagements:
We need our clients to understand what ConsultingLab is, and isn't.
While we operate very much as a real consulting firm, ConsultingLab is still a for-credit course and learning lab for students. We do not accept clients who view our students as a free coding or unpaid freelance resource.
We need a good Project Start Form.
Project Start Forms are the information summary that students use to determine their interest in candidate projects. The more complete, more specific, more focused on the project's value in general and benfits to students, the more likely the project is to be selected as a short-list project. It's a very simple form, but the information it delivers is key.
We need an involved and available client.
We do not do "fire-and-forget" projects. A project without a dedicated, involved client will fail.Â
We need access to resources, data, and client personnel.
Often, and with the best of intentions, a client will believe that data, key information, and key personnel will be available as needed during the course of the project, only to discover that -- surprise -- milestones can't be met because information or people are unavailable. Please be sure to confirm all availabilities before the Project Start Form is submitted.
Submission: please send your completed Project Start Form to clabash@cmu.edu.
