Year-long Programs

Here, we detail some of the year-long programs that math club or the math department run. Included are some resources from past events.

Mentor-Mentee Program

We match freshmen/sophomores with juniors/seniors in the fall. You can sign up for the mentor/mentee program here.

Classroom to Table

NEW! Free food + Get to know your professors better = Classroom to Table

Informal math club resource: find others who want to go to dinner with a specific professor at this spreadsheet. Please use courteously! This is a spreadsheet not affiliated with the math department.

The Classroom to Table program is a new math department-run program in which 3-5 undergraduate students invite 1-2 professors to lunch or dinner together. As part of the program, the department will reimburse up to $25 per person (faculty to handle reimbursements). Here's how it will work:

A group of 3-5 students should initiate the invitation to targeted faculty members.

Students and confirmed faculty should then choose a convenient location (walking distance) so that transport to/from is easy for everyone (The Porch, Schatz, or other places along Craig Street are just a few options).

Each student is limited to using this program twice per month.

Below is a list of faculty who have confirmed interest in participating in the program:

  • Martin Larsson

  • John Mackey

  • Boris Bukh

  • Jason Howell

  • Po-Shen Loh

  • Gautam Iyer

  • Clive Newstead

  • David Offner

  • Giovanni Leoni

  • David Handron

  • Tom Bohman

  • James Cummings

  • Tim Flaherty

  • Clinton Conley

  • Prasad Tetali

If there is a faculty member you would like to invite (but who is not listed above), please feel free to reach out directly and mention the Classroom to Table Program. For additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact Math Department Head, Prasad Tetali, at ptetali at cmu dot edu.

We'll be hosting a career panel soon. Stay tuned!

Research Development

We host REU office hours over winter break to prepare for application season early in the new year.

We held a Research Meet & Greet with resources on REUs and SURF/SURA at CMU.

NOTE: These slides are only accessible to CMU students. Please keep them within the CMU community!

We had a "So you want to go to grad school?" talk
