ABOUT
SciArt Santa Fe’s Spring 2022 program series of exhibitions and talks took place focusing on the interdisciplinary relationship of art and science and how it is integrated into and expressed in contemporary visual practices. Presented in coordination with Leonardo/International Society for the Arts, Sciences, and Technology (ISAST); University of New Mexico, College of Fine Arts; UNM, School of Architecture and Planning, STEAM NM, and sponsored by Santa Fe Art Institute (SFAI), and generously funded by National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanties, New Mexico Arts.
Through concept drawings, 3D visualization, mapping, robotics, and sculpture, the participating artists envision a new way of interpreting our cultural landscape by highlighting regional and statewide efforts to recognize and to create more inspiring and relevant monuments with a diverse and inclusive set of values. The artists consider their process and past work as artifacts of remembrance, visual representations to future monuments in the context of art, science, history, cultural heritage, historic preservation, and traditional knowledge of the region.
This exhibition invites a critical eye and cross-disciplinary approach to monument-making with a contemporary interpretation of Southwestern Cultural Landscapes. The selected works aim to highlight regional and statewide efforts to recognize and to create more inspiring and relevant monuments with a diverse and inclusive set of values. Artists included Heidi Brandow, Angel Cabrales, Chico MacMurtrie, UNM SA+P Architecture Instructor Kate Boles, Chair of Landscape Architecture Katya Crawford, Landscape Architecture Professors Susan Frye and Kathleen Kambic, Architect and Director of the Historic Preservation Program Francisco Uviña, and Architecture and Landscape Architecture graduate and undergraduate students from the School of Architecture and Planning.
