Below are some links and apps that are used by ML students. Some are for assignments and some are for fun and/or practice. All are compatible with student Chromebooks.
This website is the trusted place for Multilingual Learners. Students can search for definitions, word origins, prefixes and suffixes, and have words read aloud to help with pronunciation. Students can also click on a tab at the top and go to their "sister-site" Thesaurus.com to find synonyms and antonyms by entering a word in the search bar at the top.
Grammarly can be used as a website or added as an extension when using Google Chrome. When writing via internet-based format, Multilingual Learners can check their grammar based on suggestions from the site. If an error is detected, Grammarly puts a red line under the word(s) and students can click to check and correct the error. This is great for proofreading online work.
IMTranslator can also be accessed as a website, but the easiest use is the Google Chrome extension. With IMTranslator, when Multilingual Learners are using the internet, they can highlight words they don't understand and a dialogue bubble appears. If the user clicks on the bubble, a small box will appear onscreen and translate the highlighted words to a language the user understands. Students can even click to have the words read aloud in the original language or their selected language. The best part about this extension is that there is no need to copy/paste text into another page (like Google Translate). Instead, when the user highlights the words, it will be translated right onscreen with ease.
