My name is Jamie Fletcher and I am the Multilingual Learner Program Specialist, or MLPS (formerly ESOL) and I teach Multilingual Learners (MLs) at TL Hanna High School. I have a Bachelor's degree in English and Secondary Education English (double-major) from Clemson University and a Master's degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. I also have my ESOL K-12 certification and Literacy Teacher K-12 certification.
Professionally, I previously was on the SC ML Educator Network Board for two years, working with SC educators (not just ML teachers) to best serve the MLs in our state, providing opportunities for discussion and professional development. Working with these educators, I realized my passion for advocacy. Check out our school-based and advocacy resources here! From 2022-2024, I served as the South Carolina Advocacy Coordinator for Carolina TESOL, a nonprofit organization that serves educators and students in South Carolina and North Carolina. As the Advocacy Coordinator, I presented advocacy strategies for educators, as well as updates on state and federal legislation affecting multilingual learners. Check out South Carolina Advocacy resources here!
This is my 11th year as an ML teacher, but my 24th year teaching. Previously, I have taught high school and middle school English, but teaching Multilingual Learners is by far the best career choice for me because I love to nourish relationships with these students and watch them grow, not just in their English proficiency, but also from children to young adults.
My husband and I have been married for over 20 years, and we have 2 children: our daughter, Emerson, and our son, Levi. When we are not at sporting events with our kids, I am part of the Junior League of Anderson County (JLAC), volunteering in our community to support and serve women and children in Anderson and surrounding areas.
I am honored to introduce myself as the new Multilingual Learner (ML) Program Specialist serving both TL Hanna High School and North Pointe Elementary. It is a privilege to join two exceptional learning communities, and I look forward to partnering with students, families, and staff to ensure every multilingual learner is supported, challenged, and celebrated.
With over 16 years in education, I bring experience in classroom instruction, reading intervention, special education support, and virtual learning. I hold a Master of Science in Administration of Educational Programs, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Organizational Management. I am a highly qualified teacher in South Carolina, New Mexico, and Florida. Most recently, I worked in New Mexico, where I supported multilingual learners and their families across diverse settings. While I do not speak another language fluently, I am deeply committed to amplifying the voices of multilingual students and working collaboratively to ensure their academic and personal growth.
In this role, my focus will be to collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance instructional practices, support language acquisition, and ensure multilingual learners receive the tools and encouragement they need to succeed. I believe that every child has a unique voice, and I am committed to making sure those voices are heard, valued, and empowered.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. I’m a proud mom of two wonderful young adults: Miracle, who is studying Biology at Florida Southern College, and Jeremiah, who is attending Eastern Michigan University with aspirations of becoming a pilot. They inspire me daily and remind me of the power of education to open doors and shape futures.
I’m excited to get to know each of you and to contribute to the incredible work already happening at TL Hanna and North Pointe. Please feel free to reach out — I’m here as a resource, a collaborator, and a champion for our multilingual learners.
