Southwood Academy received an Excellent school report card and was ranked 14th in the state out of 310 middle schools.
Mr. Joshua Powell named at the Anderson School District 5 Teacher of the Year 2022-2023
30 Southwood students were selected to participate in the Governor's' School Summer program for 2023.
Southwood dance teacher, Jessica Kay, was identified as exemplary from a panel of content specialists and was recommended for publication on SCETV’s “LearningWhy” website.

The Southwood Academy Middle School orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Celeste Griffith, was selected to perform at the National Orchestra Festival in March 2023. The group earned an Excellent rating and 3rd place out of school nation-wide.

Southwood Academy Archery competed in the State Tournament on Thursday, March 30th. Southwood Academy earned 10th place at the tournament and scored the highest it ever has in a tournament.
Southwood students and staff collected over $2000 for United Way for the 2022-2023 school year.
The Southwood Academy middle school orchestra had 10 students make Region Orchestra, and 4 students make All-State Orchestra. The orchestra received 43 Superior ratings and 2 Excellent ratings at the SCMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival.. The 7th-8th orchestra received a superior rating with Distiction at the Concert performance assessment, and was awarded the state Outstanding Performance Award.
Southwood Academy had 13 students selected to participate in Youth Art Month at the Anderson Arts Center. There were two first place winners, one second place winner, and an honorable mention. Twelve students were selected to participate in the Anderson 5 Art Exhibit at the Anderson Arts Center. Four students were selected to participate in the South Carolina Art Education Association Western Region Youth Art Month Exhibit.
The Southwood Academy middle school band had 18 students make All County Band, 12 students make Region band and 3 students make All-State Band and 1 to make All State Orchestra. The band received 23 Superior ratings and 5 Excellent ratings at the SCMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival. The 7th-8th band received a superior rating with Distinction at Concert performance assessment.
Anna Chen won first place in the South Carolina Art Education Association State Youth Art Month Exhibit.

Southwood Academy was granted $12,600 for the DAP grant under the leadership of Leslie Marchi-Monroe.
Southwood Academy was granted $12,500 for the Arts in Basic Curriculum grant under the leadership of Joshua Powell.
Southwood students and staff collect socks for the underprivileged in Anderson in an event called Socktober.
The Southwood Academy high school orchestra had 12 students make Region Orchestra, and 3 students make All State Orchestra. The Southwood Academy high school Sinfonia Orchestra earned a superior with distinction at Concert Performance Assessment, 28 Superiors and 9 Excellents at Solo and Ensemble, and received the Outstanding Performance Award given by the state.
