Rising Middle School Auditions
The Southwood faculty will be auditioning current district 5th grade students at their schools on the dates listed below.
Rising Middle School Auditions
Calhoun Academy of the Arts - September 30 - October 4
Centerville Elementary - October 9, 14, 28, 29
Concord Elementary - October 21 - 25
McLees Elementary - September 30 - October 4
Midway Elementary - October 21 - 25
Rising Middle School Auditions
Nevitt Forest Elementary - October 14 - 18
New Prospect Elementary - October 9 - 11, October 28-29
North Pointe Elementary - September 30 - October 4
Varennes Elementary - October 9 - 11, October 28-29
Whitehall Elementary - October 21 - 25
In addition, open auditions for all students in grades 5 through 7 will be held at Southwood Academy
Students may choose to either audition at their school during the school day or at the open audition.
Band
Students will complete a rhythm and pitch aptitude test with the band teacher. They will also have brief interview after testing. (Prior experience not required)
Dance
Students will learn a short dance routine taught by the dance teacher and will perform it as a small group. (Students need to wear appropriate clothes and shoes that allow movement - Prior experience not required)
Chorus
Students will be required to sing the first verse of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” from memory and complete vocal exercises with the choral teacher (Prior experience not required)
Theatre
Students must select and perform a brief monologue. Monologues may be about one minute in length. (monologues will also be provided at the audition if needed - Prior experience not required)
Strings
Students will complete a rhythm and pitch aptitude test with the strings teacher involving rhythm replication and pitch recognition.
Calhoun Academy students and private lesson students will perform one selection choice from the current classroom method book. (Prior experience not required)
Visual Art
Students will complete an art lesson on observational drawing using contour lines. The audition will involve a life-size drawing of the students' hand using a pencil.
