Southwood Academy High School Auditions
The Southwood faculty will be auditioning current district 8th-grade students at their home schools on the dates below. Please click the links below to register for an audition at Southwood Academy of the Arts. To fill out the form, you will need to log in with your student Anderson 5 e-mail credentials. If you have already registered, you may log back in and change those choices up until the week before the audition. For those wanting to take Concert Choir, Piano, Guitar, or Music Production, please complete this survey.

Dance
Students will take a dance class. The teacher will lead students through warm-up, center, and across the floor exercises. Dance phrases will be learned and then performed in small groups. Students should wear form fitting clothing that they can move in. Leggings and a t-shirt or tank top are recommended. If a student has dance shoes, they are welcome to bring them, but dance shoes are not required to audition.
Theatre/Theatre Tech
Students auditioning for theatre do not need to prepare anything ahead of time. At the time of audition, students will be given a monologue that they will perform as a cold-read, using strong acting techniques such as projection, expression, and energy. The student will also be asked to improvise and take notes and theatrical direction from the instructor.
Orchestra
Students wishing to audition for Sinfonia orchestra must perform required scales/etudes/excerpts used for the Region 2 Orchestra Auditions. All other orchestra students who have been in 8th grade orchestra or in another high school orchestra class are automatically placed in freshman orchestra or 10-12 grade orchestra based on their grade level. For students who did not take orchestra in the past year, they are invited to come to the open auditions and play something that is representative of their level of playing.
3D Design / Drawing & Paint
Students must have previous visual art experience (B in Art 1) or complete a drawing with the visual art teacher. Southwood visual art students are not required to audition.
Chorus
No audition is required for concert choir, but students will be asked to complete a survey.
Students wishing to audition for chamber choir must audition by singing selected vocal exercises and complete a music aptitude test.
Guitar
No audition is required for beginning guitar, but students will be asked to complete an interest survey.
Students who have taken private lessons, or have played guitar for at least two years, may AUDITION for Guitar 2. If more advanced chords, rhythm, and theory are demonstrated, the student is accepted into Guitar 2. Guitar 1 will not be required. Guitar teacher at Southwood must be contacted DIRECTLY to set up appointment time for audition. Guitar 2 is offered in the spring semester.
Music Production
No audition is required for Music Production 1, but students will be asked to complete an interest survey
For Music Production 2-8, students must have completed Music Production 1 and have a semester average of 80 or above.
Piano
No audition is required for Music Production 1, but students will be asked to complete an interest survey.
For Piano 2 – 8, students must have completed Piano 1 and have a teacher recommendation. Students may also audition with a selected piece without having completed Piano 1.
