8th grade: In this unit, students will explore the visual and cultural impact of street art by creating graffiti-style name artworks. They will learn to distinguish between commissioned art and vandalism, experiment with graphic lettering, and use warm/cool color contrasts, drop shadows, and spray-paint-style techniques to convey mood and personal identity.
7th grade: In this unit, students will explore identity and repetition by designing radial artworks that incorporate their names. Inspired by kaleidoscope patterns and stained glass windows, students will experiment with block lettering, radial symmetry, and oil pastel blending. This unit strengthens color theory knowledge while fostering confidence in design.
6th grade: In this unit, students will explore their personal identities by designing name-based compositions using line, shape, and pattern. They will study how artists incorporate lettering and pattern into expressive designs, develop their own zentangle patterns, and use one-point perspective to add depth. This project builds community, encourages creativity, and strengthens foundational skills in design and drawing.
