The counseling program at SAA is a comprehensive developmental guidance program. Students are served in class, small group counseling and individual sessions.  We discuss emotional, academic and/or career education topics. I address the concerns of the students, parents and teachers based on their individual needs.  I also coordinate parent teacher conferences when there is a request by parents or teachers.  

I received my education at Winthrop University in Elementary Education (May, 1989) and a Masters in Education from Clemson University in Guidance and Counseling Services (May, 1991).  I have been a middle school counselor for 34 years.  My favorite thing to do when I am not at school is to perform in community theater.  I have performed in over 90 productions in the Upstate of SC and Georgia.  I have been in two Channel 4 TV commercials one for Goodwill and one for Greenville Library Association.   I am the New Member Adviser for Chi Omega Fraternity at Clemson University. I also love to travel.  I adopted a kitty from PAWS with only three legs. Her name is Mae Belle.  I was also adopted by my parents, too!!!  I also adopted a German Sheppard named Lilly. I love middle school students and I can't imagine doing anything else with my life!!!!!!! I am truly blessed everyday.

I became a counselor because I want to give back.  Middle school students just fit with my personality.  Everyday at school to me is an adventure. My goal is to help the students find their way during one of the hardest times in their life.  I never know what the day will bring or what student's will want to talk about but I strive to not judge and to listen to student needs, parent needs and teacher needs. My goal is to serve the students, the parents and the teachers in any way I can to support academic and emotional health here at Southwood.
