This is my 6th year at Midway Elementary School. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. I have 7.5 years experience in South Carolina public schools and 5 years working with Part C of IDEA to support children with special needs and developmental delays. I have training and experience in addressing the needs of different learners, and I feel confident I can help your child succeed in third grade. I believe in the importance of sensory processing skills and incorporating sensory activities into our daily routines to help students stay on task and learn in the way that is best for them. This includes flexible seating options, movement breaks, and presentation of material in a variety of ways (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing).
I am married to Aaron Vaughn, and we have 2 amazing kids together, Micah and Harper. I love animals, and I would have a zoo in my classroom if I was able! My husband, a scientist, sparks my love and passion for STEAM by seeing how it relates to all areas of his life. I believe incorporating the elements of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics are key to preparing our children to be influential and contributing members of our 21st century society.
I love to spend time outdoors hiking, fishing, and kayaking with my family. I like to watch shows and read stories about survivalists, but I've never even been camping! I played volleyball in college, but I refer to myself as "retired". I consider myself pretty artistic, and I like making new things. I love to travel and experience new cultures.
