Resources for Parents and Teachers to Use
We are implementing the SC Midway ELA state standards and studying the Science of Reading. Our faculty is currently in year 2 of LETRS Training, which stands for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling. Additionally, many teachers and staff have been busy taking the Read to Succeed Literacy classes. Our most recent book studies have been surrounding the Science of Reading. We have read and researched LETRS, Uncovering the Logic of English, and Shifting the Balance. Recently, many teachers have taken the IMSE Comprehensive Orton-Gillingham Plus course and are following up with plans to take Morphology Training.
Midway is blessed with talented teachers who are committed to lifelong learning, growth, and advancement to help students. All K-2 teachers are following and aligning instruction with the HMH Literacy Program. Additional curriculum supports include UFLI Foundations, An Explicit and Systematic Phonics Program, Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, and Pride Phonics. We are proud to say Midway students perform exceptionally well on state reading and math assessments, along with National NWEA Map assessments. As an ever-growing educated community, however, we are always looking to improve for the wellness of our children.
