How do I become a member of the RBT PTO?

Chances are you already are one! If you have a student attending Robert B. Turner Elementary, you are automatically a member of the PTO and as such have the right to vote on any motions made at our general meetings. Even if you're not keen on voicing your opinions to the room at large, we'd welcome you to attend or sign up to our newsletter to stay informed on our plans for the school. We are always happy to hear your thoughts and opinions on what we can do better moving forward.

I am a grandparent; can I be a member of the RBT PTO?

If your grandchild is a student attending Robert B. Turner Elementary, you are more than welcome to attend the PTO meetings, as we value your thoughts and opinions! However, you are not permitted to vote on any motions made at our general meetings. Volunteer opportunities are available to you, and we would gladly appreciate your involvement. We invite you to sign up to our newsletter to stay informed on our plans for the school. Thank you for your interest in the PTO.

Am I eligible for a position on the Executive Board?

If you will have a child at Robert B. Turner Elementary in the subsequent school year, yes! Parents of soon-to-be kindergarteners are eligible for an election or an appointment. Parents of 5th graders are not eligible for elected positions unless they have a younger child enrolled or entering kindergarten, or unless the Board votes to continue their term.

Why are there so many fundraisers?

It takes a lot—a lot—of money to keep a school running, even with the budget RBT is given and the assistance provided by the AC-FRYSC, the Anderson County Board of Education, and the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. Last year, the RBT PTO granted nearly $14,000 in teacher and staff funding requests alone, and much more was spent on educational subscriptions and school events. You can find more details in our "What We Do" and "Flyers & Handouts" sections, or you can attend a meeting!

As parents, we understand the financial burden of the fundraisers we run, which is why the PTO strives to schedule gaps between them. However, please understand that we do not run every fundraiser that may come home with your child, and we can't always coordinate with other groups' fundraisers. They may overlap sometimes, but all of them are important and are going to benefit the same thing: our children!
