While reading Charlotte's Web, we have discovered that spring pigs are usually raised to provide pork, ham, and bacon for the farmer. Luckily, Wilbur has Charlotte who is determined to save him from this fate. Charlotte has written several words in her web to describe Wilbur in hopes that Mr. Zuckerman will realize that Wilbur is a special pig and his life must be spared. However, Wilbur would also like to have your family's help in disguising him so he can stay hidden from Mr. Zuckerman.
Your Family's Job: Disguise Wilbur so that Mr. Zuckerman will not be able to find him. Below is a picture of our friend Wilbur. You will use any materials you have to disguise him and dress him so that Mr. Zuckerman will not recognize him. There are so many possibilities - maybe your family chooses to disguise Wilbur as a spider, or maybe he will simply blend in with the straw, or perhaps you disguise Wilbur to look just like Mr. Zuckerman. You can simply color Wilbur OR you may get more creative by using other things such as feathers, buttons, material, etc to disguise him.
Think of this project as similar to the Disguise A Turkey project some students do in the fall. If you need a little inspiration, I will attach some pictures or examples below. You can also google Disguise a Turkey projects to get some other ideas.
We can't wait to see the disguises that your families will come up for to help Wilbur hide from Mr. Zuckerman. All students will be given a copy of the project directions and Wilbur to complete the project. We ask that all projects are returned to school no later than Thursday, April 16th but you may turn your project in to your librarian prior to the due date if you finish it. While we would love all families to participate, the project is optional. If you have more than one Titan in your family, you can create one disguise for Wilbur or each child can work on his/her own. If you have any questions, please reach out to your school's librarian. Happy Disguising!
