Welcome to the Anderson County One Book, One District website! We are so excited that all three Anderson County Elementary Schools (EBW, RBT, SSE) will be participating in this reading adventure together.
What is One Book, One District?
In One Book, One District, ALL elementary students, teachers, principals, and families at EBW, RBT, and SSE will be reading the same book at the same time. That means all your friends at school, friends at ball practice, and friends at church will be reading the same story as you, so you can talk about the story! Each week our students and their families will have assigned chapters to read in the book. Don’t think of it as homework, think of it as family time. You, your parents and/or grandparents, and your siblings will sit together each week to read. You may want to read all your chapters in one night or maybe read for about 15 minutes each night - it is up to your family! The goal of the project is for our students to have a common reading experience with their peers and families. In doing so, we hope to create a culture where students are not only encouraged to read, but also are intrinsically motivated to read by learning that reading is actually fun!
"When a whole school and district reads a book, there is A LOT to talk about!”
A Special Thank You!
Thanks to the generosity of our Family Resource Youth Service Center and Friends of the Anderson County Public Library, every student at RBT, Emma B. Ward, and Saffell Street received a copy of the same book – E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web .
This year, we selected a book that can be followed, understood and enjoyed by younger students, but will still captivate older students. We know reading levels vary so we invite you to read to and/or with your children. We are really aiming for this to be a family activity and hope you can spend the time with your child as they read the book. We recognize that it is sometimes difficult to carve out time every single night, but hope you will make every effort to do so!
What other activities Can I expect while the schools are reading the book?
To make this an even more exciting time, in the coming weeks, we are going to have some fun school wide activities. Each Friday on morning announcements there will be a Charlotte's Web trivia question from the chapters that our students have read for the week. Students who submit the correct answer will receive a small prize and have their picture taken as Readers of the Week. Look for a family art project for you to work on as a family and we will be having a character dress up day to allow our students to dress up as their favorite Charlotte’s Web Character. In addition, we are hoping to offer a Family Movie Night upon the completion of the book in April for our families to come to school one evening and enjoy watching the Charlotte's Web movie together.
