The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC Scotland) is the independent regulator for teachers in Scotland. They work in the public interest to enhance trust in teachers by setting, upholding and promoting high standards. It is a legal requirement for all teachers employed in Scottish schools to be registered, and part of the agreed national terms and conditions for college lecturers employed in Scottish colleges - GTCS administers that register. A requirement of registration is ongoing professional learning through the GTCS Professional Update process.
Professional Review and Development (PRD) is central to raising achievement and improving the effectiveness of learning and teaching. It supports teacher professionalism and underlines the importance of professional learning as a fundamental part of school improvement, leading to improved outcomes for children and young people in Angus.
Professional Learning
Teachers engage in professional learning to stimulate their thinking and professional knowledge and to ensure that their practice is critically informed and current.
When a wide range of high-quality, sustained professional learning is undertaken, teachers are more likely to inspire pupils and provide high-quality teaching and learning experiences, enabling learners to achieve their best.
It is important that professional learning provides rich opportunities for teachers to develop and enhance their professional knowledge and practice, in order to progress the quality of learning and teaching and school improvement.

Self - Evaluation
A self-evaluation wheel, also known as a coaching wheel, is a valuable tool for supporting self-evaluation.
Using a wheel can help you to explore current reality and critically reflect on yourself as a professional and your practice.
A self-evaluation wheel can help you to create clarity about the areas of the Professional Standard(s) you wish to focus on and perform a simple gap analysis about where you are now, and where you would like to be.
You may use this independently or as part of a structured coaching discussion.
