For teachers in employment, the professional review and development (PRD) cycle provides teachers, throughout the year, with ongoing opportunities to reflect on their practice and professional learning. Every teacher, regardless of their role, should access their annual entitlement to formal professional dialogue as part of their PRD. Professional Review and Development is an integral aspect of Professional Update (PU).
The annual PRD meeting focuses on the ongoing professional learning that you have undertaken, your self-evaluation and reflection against the relevant Professional Standards and identifies strengths and agrees areas for development. The Professional learning planning cycle assists and supports reflective thinking in PRD discussions. Professional Review and Development (PRD) is an integral aspect of PU, and provides you with ongoing opportunities to reflect on your practice and personal learning through professional learning dialogue supported by an annual review meeting.
Career conversations during PRD discussions can also help guide and influence future professional learning opportunities. The suite of Professional Standards supports the development of skills and dispositions as a teacher and where relevant as a career choice, routes to formal leadership.
When set within a culture of professional trust and positive relationships, high-quality PRD enables teachers, whether they are reviewers or reviewees, to be leaders ‘of and for’ learning.
