Guatemala has a mountainous interior with many volcanos, some of which are still active. The country has coastal plains as well with the higher population / cities mainly located in the southern area.

The capital of Guatemala is Guatemala City located in the southern region. Guatemala is surrounded by Mexico, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador. Coastlines include the Pacific Ocean to the west/southwest and the Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean Sea) to the east/northeast.
