"When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here” . . . “and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn’t imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.” – Phil Connors
Greetings from the East!
Fratres and Sorores, once again Fall is here with the march toward the winter solstice. Perhaps after the extremely hot days of this summer the cooler days will seem doubly blessed.
As I wrote last season, we are continuing to add back our regular activities. This quarter we are adding the book salon and degree forum. The book salon will be studying “Essays of a Modern Mystic” by past Imperator H. Spencer Lewis. This will be led by Fr. Ed Hanson. Note that this will require a sign up. Look for a general announcement with detail from Fr. Ed closer to the first meeting on October 3. The degree forum is starting over from the Neophyte level beginning October 17. They will again be led by Fr. Bob Stanko. I hope to be able to add more events back in the following quarter beginning in January.
The pandemic situation is a bit worse than last time with the increasing count of infections from the Delta variant. We are currently requiring masks for all people attending indoor events, regardless of vaccination status. As always, since the situation keeps changing, I’ll cover virus restrictions more specifically in the reminder emails for each convocation.
This season’s regular convocations touch on the interface of the mystical and mundane worlds. I hope you will enjoy them and that they are useful in reminding us of the wonder that surrounds us always and how close the mystical is. Aside from these, we will be honored by a visit from our Regional Monitor, Fr. Ed Hanson on October 17. He will have a message of Light for us. Finishing out the season will be the Festival of Light on December 19. All of the dates mentioned here are also listed on the calendar, elsewhere in this newsletter.
Wishing you all Peace Profound,
William Fickas, FRC Master Rocky Mountain Pronaos, AMORC
