Reading/ELA: Our reading curriculum uses many tools. For whole group reading we will use the Journey's program. We will focus on comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary strategies. We will also spend time in small groups doing guided reading to enhance the skills we have discussed in whole group reading at each students level. Our writing projects will incorporate narrative, informational, and opinion writing pieces using the Being a Writer program. This program combines a writing process approach with guided instruction. Being a Writer is student-centered, rigorous writing instruction for students with dual goals – fostering students’ growth as capable, skilled writers and caring, respectful members of their classroom community.
Spelling: We use the Journey’s spelling program. Students will bring home weekly lists with a variety of activities to help them learn the spelling patterns for that list. Spelling tests will be given weekly.
Math: The math program uses the enVision Math program. A variety of topics to be covered include place value, multiplication and division of multi digit numbers, adding and subtracting fractions, measurement, and lines, angles, and shapes.
Social Studies: Our social studies curriculum focuses on our great state of Wisconsin. We will discuss Wisconsin’s geography, climate and resources, historical factors and people, state government, industry, and several other topics. We use the Wisconsin Studies Weekly magazines to help us in learning this information.
Science: In science, a variety of topics will be covered including organisms structures and process, Earth’s systems and human activity, energy, and waves and the application in technologies for information transfer. The Mystery Science program offers students a hands on, inquiry based exploration of these topics.
