Meet our Lab Members!

Elizabeth Kneeland, Primary Investigator

Dr. Kneeland (she/her/hers) is a Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Amherst College. She joined the Amherst College faculty in 2020 and graduated from the college in 2010. Dr. Kneeland grew up in Michigan and has been living in New England for a little over a decade. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University in 2018. Her clinical training focused on treating adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mood and anxiety disorders. Her research program spans clinical, social, and health psychology to understand how to promote active emotion regulation efforts to enhance resilience and well-being. When she isn’t conducting research or teaching, she is spending time with her family (ideally outside) and chasing after her two young kids.

Mabel Shanahan, Lab Manager

Mabel (she/her/hers) graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a B.S. in Psychology in 2022. During her undergraduate career, she assisted with neural vitality research focused on older adults. Upon graduation, Mabel continued in neural vitality research, seeking to understand the effect of preparation on emotional processing and regulation through neuroimaging and psychophysiological methods. Mabel joined the Wellbeing and Emotion Change Lab to further her experience in emotion research. She is hoping to continue her education and earn a PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology. Some of her research interests include emotions, obsessive-compulsive symptomology, and perceptual awareness. Outside of the lab, Mabel can often be found curled up with her cats reading a  good book or spending time by the ocean.
