Birth and Education
Ranjan Kumar Jana was born to Smt. Bhabani Jana and Dhirendra Nath Jana on 14th February 1981 in Pataspur, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, India. After finishing his schooling from Banamalichatta High School in 1998, he completed his graduation in Mathematics (Honours) from Midnapore College (College with Potential for Excellence) and received his M.Sc. degree in Mathematics from Vidyasagar University, Midnapore in 2003.
Research Fellowships
Based on his GATE 2003 score he was selected as a Junior Research Fellow on a Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) scheme entitled Large Amplitude Solitary Waves and Double Layer in Dusty and Astrophysical Plasma at Department of Mathematics, Visva-Bharati (A Central University) and worked there from 19.12.2003 to 18.09.2004.
He has been awarded Research Fellowship from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and worked at Atmospheric Science Division, Meteorology & Oceanography Group, Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad on the topic Numerical weather prediction from 20.09.2004 to 31.01.2006.
Work Experience
Upon qualification of National Eligibility Test (NET) in 2004, he has been selected as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor in present convention) in Mathematics at Nirma University, Ahmedabad and worked there from 01.02.06 to 06.12.06.
He has also been selected as a Project Engineer at Computational Atmospheric Science Group of Centre for Development and Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune in January 2006, to run the atmospheric model in super computer. But he preferred to stay at teaching profession and till date serving in this profession.
He left Nirma University, Ahmedabad to join Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (An Institute of National Importance vide NIT Act 2007, Govt. of INDIA) as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics on 07.12.2006 and elevated to Associate Professor in 2023. He was deeply involved in the academics in terms of teaching and research (designing course curricula for five year integrated M.Sc. programme in Mathematics, completed research projects etc.) and administrative (Chief Coordinator (Examinations), International Student Advisor, Warden Ship of Hostel etc.) responsibilities at SVNIT and enjoyed the livelihood of the most cleanest city of India, Surat. He was elevated to the post of Associate Professor w.e.f. 21.12.2023. Currently, he is holding the post of Associate Dean (Academic) at SVNIT.
Doctor of Philosophy
He is closely associated with Dr. A. K. Shukla, under whose supervision he has completed his doctoral studies on the topic Generalization of some Special Functions.
Post Doctoral Fellow
Dr. R.K. Jana have been awarded Indo-US Research Fellowship for the year 2013 by IUSSTF, New Delhi, for post-doctoral studies at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, with Prof. Bruce C. Berndt.
Research Activities
At SVNIT, his group is working on Special Functions, Integral Transform, Operations Research and Satellite Data Assimilation. The research work is partially supported by DST-SERB, CSIR, DOS-ISRO, Govt. of India and SVNIT Research Grant.
