We are a group of students at Ames Middle School hoping to make a much needed change in our community.
While at AMS, we noticed a lack of free period supplies at our school- the only way for students to access feminine hygiene products for free was to either ask a teacher (who have to spend their own money if they choose to supply them) or go to the nurse's office. Going to the nurses office may take several minutes, causing students to miss class time or potentially be counted tardy-this can hinder the students' education and lead to other repercussions such as detention.
Another way lack of access to free period supplies negatively impacts students' education is if it causes them to stay home from school. Students who don't have period supplies at home that they can bring to school are likely to stay home or leave school early.
HOW ARE WE FIXING THIS PROBLEM?
The solution is really quite simple- just supply free pads in bathrooms! Since most schools don't do this, we decided to do it ourselves. We are putting boxes full of supplies in girls' bathrooms! By doing this, many students will find their periods to have fewer negative impacts on their everyday lives. Help us support students by donating period products to the AMS student services office!

High School Members
ELLA (publicist/co-founder)- I am a freshman at Ames High School. My hobbies include drawing, acting, playing games and spending time with my friends. I've participated in the Middle School's NJAHS, and have won several awards for my art pieces!
ELODIE (president/co-founder)- I am in ninth grade at AHS. When not in school (or doing homework), I enjoy parkour, volleyball, acting, and spending time with my friends and family. I currently have the 7th and 8th grade school record for high jump!
MAGGIE (treasurer/co-founder)- I am a freshman at AHS. Outside of school I enjoy reading, music, watching TV, and hanging out with friends. I am also very involved in Story Theater Company!

Middle School Members
JOANA (President) I am an eighth grader at AMS. Outside of school, I enjoy doing BJJ, playing the cello and tuba, and hanging out with friends and family!
ALICE (Secretary) I am an eighth-grade student at Ames Middle School. Outside of school, I like reading, drawing, singing/acting, and attempting to write books. I have about twelve unfinished stories that I may or may not go back and finish, and a few finished short stories.
VIVIAN (Graphic Designer)- I am an 8th-grade student at Ames Middle School. When not swimming or doing homework, I enjoy reading, acting, drawing, and baking. I have participated in National History Day for two years- my group went to state last year, and got an honorable mention this year!
MAGGIE (Fundraising and Events Planner)- I am an 8th grader at AMS. I have been traveling my whole life as I moved from Uruguay to England when I was 6. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, learning new things, and drawing.
CLAIRE (Intern)- I am a 7th grader at AMS. When not in school, I enjoy playing the trumpet and going to the dog park with my three dogs. You can almost always find me hanging out with my friends in and out of school.
