Colleagues,
Welcome to Ames High for the IHSSA State Individual Event Contest! Here are some specifics & announcements to help contest day be successful & smooth sailing for all involved.
Headquarters: The Media Center will be our headquarters. You can find it by climbing the grand staircase, taking a left, and walking south on the mezzanine hallway towards the giant class room. Please check in at arrival, providing a cell phone number for contact. This is also where you'll pick up your comment sheets at the end of your day.
Student Commons: Gym #2 will serve as the commons area, in addition to our cafeteria. They may store possessions & establish "base camp" here. Twin doors near the Athletics Concession Stand lead down into a basement hallway that's a straight shot to the gym.
Parking: Please click here for more info.
Schedule: The schedule will be shared as soon as possible, here. Any changes or drops can be done through this change form.
Schedule Concerns: Problems with the schedule? Please email me at chuck.ripley@ames.k12.ia.us. I'll do my best to address it quickly.
Contest Volunteers: You can spot our volunteers wearing a themed tee-shirt.
Please tell performers & parents/supporters to be at their centers early. Though there may be fewer drops than a district contest, drops and running ahead of schedule does happen. No one will be required to perform early but volunteers to do so are always appreciated to keep a long day moving.
No photo or video during performances. Photography and or videotaping are expressly forbidden.
Performance Atmosphere. Though the separation of classrooms from the main hallway should help with crowd noise, it won't altogether remove it, especially with common seating available in the pods. Please remind everyone there's a time & place for loud cheering, revelry, and noise. It's on the bus, returning home on Saturday evening. Jokes aside, please respect the right students have to a performance space.
Donation. We'll be asking for a $5 admission donation at the door. Please remind supporters that this is also a fundraiser as much as it is a contest. Along with greeters collecting donations, there will be a large, clapboard map of the school present and flyers with QR links to the schedule, menu, and other information.
Media Equipment.
As per SWIFT, “Please read your constitution – you must provide your own media formatted presentation. The contest site will have a backup just in case something happens to your projector or computer, however, it is your responsibility to bring your own equipment.
Extron Media Controller
Wall projector panel may work for you. When turned "on," the panel will default to PC/HDMI wired connection after 60 seconds.
HDMI/AUX In
HDMI should carry both video & audio for your student if their settings are correct. Again, please plan on using your own equipment.
Epson Short-Throw Projector
Projectors are wall-mounted and project on a screen roughly 8' x 6'.
There will be extension cords available for your projectors.
Epson Projector Remote
You shouldn't need this, but here's what it looks like!
Comment Sheets. Please wait to pick up comment sheets until all ratings are posted. If you wish to leave before they are posted, leave a self-addressed, stamped envelope for us to send them to you. Comment sheets will be available in Media Center. There will also be spare comment sheets available.
Results. Results will be posted online, accessible via a QR code, on televisions throughout the building, and on paper, posted on the Media Center just off the mezzanine hall.
Weather. March, a month of false spring and brutal winds. While we believe that the contest will run on time and as planned, I will be informing you of any potential delays via our website, the IHSSA website, and WHO/KCCI. A final decision, if necessary, would be made on the morning of the 15th. Our make-up date is Monday, March 17th.
