Section 1: Inquiry Question and Concept Exploration
Inquiry Statement: How can perspective drawing techniques be used to invent a believable space that blends imagination with realism?
Perspective drawing techniques help artists create spaces that feel realistic even when they are imaginary. By using tools like horizon lines and vanishing points, objects can be drawn smaller as they move farther away and larger when they are closer to the viewer. This creates the illusion of depth and makes the scene look three-dimensional. As a result, artists can invent creative environments while still making them look believable.
Section 2: Connection
I was inspired by artists such as Kim Jung Gi and David Hockney, particularly in their use of perspective to create dynamic and imaginative spaces. I studied Kim Jung Gi’s ability to construct complex scenes using consistent vanishing points and overlapping forms, and experimented with multiple perspective grids in my own work. I also explored David Hockney’s idea of combining different viewpoints, which influenced my approach to making the space more creative rather than strictly realistic. These connections helped me develop a balance between technical accuracy and imaginative expression.

Section 3: Investigate
I went beyond the instructions by experimenting with different perspective systems (1, 2, and 3 point) and detailed texture studies, as shown in my visual documentation. Instead of only practicing basic forms, I applied these techniques to imagined architectural elements, exploring how exaggerated shapes could still feel realistic. I also developed my artistic voice by combining structured perspective with expressive textures like brick and stone, which later influenced my final piece. While some perspective lines are not perfectly consistent, this experimentation helped me better understand depth and create a more dynamic and imaginative space.

Section 4: Create
Section 5: Final Artwork
Title: Triangular alley
Size:
Date of Completion: 30 - 03 - 26
Why: I created this artwork to reimagine Diagon Alley from Harry Potter, combining my imagination with perspective techniques to make the magical setting feel realistic and immersive.
Section 6: Communicate and Reflect
I believe my artwork aligns well with the inquiry statement. I was able to combine imagination with realism by applying perspective drawing techniques to create a space that feels both creative and believable. However, I could improve by refining the consistency of my vanishing points and making the perspective more precise across all elements.
