Section 1: Inquiry question and concept exploration
I can turn and everyday object like candy into a piece of art in different ways. One way that we learnt, was by choosing the perfect angle and position for your candy, this position needs to be captured in a way which the shadows and lighting compliment and make the artwork look nicer and more realistic. Another way we learnt, was by blending and layering the colors. This meant blending the right shades of colors to create a darker or lighter shade that would make the art look more realistic since the pieces of candy had different shades of one color being layered, making it more shiny and making it smoother for it to look realistic.
Section 2: Connections
This Image shows different pieces of colorful candy laid around a canvas. However, this photo would have been harder to recreate using pencils because of all the different textures. Compared to my selected image, some pieces of candy are twisted, spiky, or stringed, which is harder to represent with color pencils.
I chose this as my slected image, since compared to my other image, this foto shot more shade throughout the canvas. This makes parts of the candy transition from lighter to darker, and also because this angle creates more shadow than the other.
I didnt choose this image as my reference, since it didnt show enough color transitioning, making it more easier and simple to recreate it. I also didnt use this image since the angle didnt create much shadows in the background, and the little shadow that there was didnt look good.

Section 4: Create
(I lost my phone and had to get another one so my other fotos got lost)
On day 4, I followed the picture in my computer since the color shades were more accurate, so to improve, I pressed harder on the colors to imitate the colors of the image. this not only helped make the candy brighter, but the transition of shades was much more clearer.
Section 5: Final artwork
Title: Colored candy
Size: 19x21.5
Date of completion: 10/3/2025
Why: I chose to do this artwork since it demonstrates different types of my favourite candy, representing a part of me which is my love for sweets. I also chose it, since the orange and blue are opposite to each other, complementing them and contrasting them more. Originally, it was going to be only the complementary colors, blue and orange, but decided to add red to add more shadow and darker shades to the artwork.
Reflection: A challenge for me during this art project, was mixing the shades, since I sometimes added and pressed too much of one color, messing up the shade and making the candy look weird which was something i was trying to avoid during the project. Another challenge I had, was coloring the shark gummy, since we hadnt practiced the shading for that tone of blue, so I had to expiriment with differfent types of blue/turqouise to see how to make it look darker or lighter to end up with similar results.
