United States Senate Youth Program - Deadline  October 11th, 2025

The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest Program Deadline: October 15, 2024 Eligibility: Eligible participants in The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest shall be citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States. All contestants must be bona fide students under the age of twenty (20) years on the date of the National Contest who are presently enrolled in a high school or junior high school (public, parochial, military, private or state accredited home school) in which the curriculum of said high school is considered to be of high school level, commencing with grade nine (9) and terminating with grade twelve (12). Students must be enrolled in high school or junior high school during the time of participation at any level of The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest. Contestants must either be legally domiciled within or attend an educational institution within the Department (State) that they enter competition. Contestants can enter competition through only one Department. The three finalists of the National Contest will be ineligible for further participation at any level. Award: Young orators earn some of the most generous college scholarships available to high school students. Over $203,500 in scholarships can be awarded each year. The overall national contest winner gets a $25,000 scholarship. Second place takes home $22,500, and third gets $20,000. Each department (state) winner who is certified into and participates in the national contest’s first round receives a $2,000 scholarship. Those who advance past the first round receive an additional $2,000 scholarship. The American Legion’s National Organization awards the scholarships, which can be used at any college or university in the United States.  Wendy’s High School Heisman Scholarship  Deadline: August 8, 2023 - October 17, 2023 at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET. Eligibility: Have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of a B (3.0) or better. Participate in at least one of the 47 sports recognized by the International Olympic Committee in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games or the National Federation of State High School Association and sponsored by your school. National Space Club Scholarship  

Deadline: November 1, 2024 Eligibility: The applicant must be a U.S. citizen. The scholarship is open to seniors in high school through graduate students. The applicant must have the intention of pursuing a career in the STEM fields and plan to attend an accredited U.S. college or university to follow a course of study to pursue a career in the STEM field, with a preference for those with space-related interests. The applicant can only use the $20,000.00 scholarship towards tuition for the 2025-2026 academic year. The applicant must not have previously spoken at the Dr. Robert H. Goddard Memorial Dinner. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Kearney Health Opportunities Program (KHOP)  

Deadline: December 1, 2024 Eligibility: High school seniors from rural Nebraska who: Will receive a high school diploma or equivalent, Have a sincere interest in becoming a healthcare provider, Have a willingness to practice in rural Nebraska (see below for rural eligibility), Have scored a minimum ACT composite of 23 or above before the application deadline Award: Receive a full tuition scholarship at UNK & receive guaranteed admission to their specified healthcare program at UNMC upon satisfactory completion of all requirements within the prescribed timeline.  The Hagan Scholarship Foundation  

Deadline:  December 1, 2024 Eligibility: 2024-2025 Eligibility Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must attend an Eligible Public High School. Must have achieved a 3.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average. Must enroll at an Eligible Four-Year College or University the first semester following high school graduation. Must maintain a four year or less graduation schedule in college. Must work 240 hours during the twelve months prior to fall semester college enrollment. Preferred employment is regularly scheduled work performed under supervision for compensation. Must provide the FAFSA SAR showing the EFC. Must be Pell Grant eligible. The family EFC does not have to be paid, it is used only to determine disbursement amounts. Must apply for Federal and State grants if eligible.  Must not have a felony conviction. Award:  The scholarship provides up to $48,000 over four years to attend college. Horatio Alger Scholarship Program

Eligibility: APPLY ONLINE & download and submit certification page by mail. Must be a high school senior who plans to enter college in the fall after graduation, Minimum 2.0+ G.P.A., involvement in co-curricular and community activities, demonstrate integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need ($55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is preferred, if higher explanation must be provided), a good academic record, commitment to purse a college education and a desire to contribute to society Award: $5,000 to $20,000. Walter Scott Jr. Scholarship  

Deadline:  11:59 P.M. on December 29, 2024 Eligibility: To be eligible for the Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship, applicants must have a composite ACT score of 30 or higher (1340 SAT) and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Candidates must be admitted into one of the following programs on the Omaha campus:  Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Information Assurance, IT Innovation, or Management Information Systems.  Award: The Walter Scott, Jr. Scholarship covers: university fees, required course books and materials, room and board for Fall and Spring terms at Scott Resident Hall and personal computer for use during the duration of the scholarship. University of Nebraska at Kearney Honors Program  Deadline: January 7, 2025 Eligibility: High School seniors with a grade point average of 3.8 or higher and an ACT of at least 27 should apply by February 10.  Review will emphasize leadership, community engagement, perseverance, and talent.  From the pool of qualified applicants, UNK will select 120 students to participate in an interview process in the last week of February.  Approximately 100 students will be accepted into the program, and they will be notified by the end of March. TeamMates Central Office Scholarship 

Deadline: January 20, 2025 Eligibility:  TeamMates mentees pursuing any type of educational/training program past high school (including four-year college/university, two-year college, certification program, cosmetology school, trade/career school, military, or other educational/training program) may apply as long as they meet the following eligibility requirements:  Must be a high school senior.  Must have participated in TeamMates for a minimum of 3 years.  Must be a current mentee regularly meeting with their mentor (some exceptions may be approved by the TeamMates National Office).  Must utilize the scholarship beginning in the fall of 2025.  Some scholarships may have additional eligibility requirements (refer to the 2024-2025 Scholarship Packet for full details).  Note: If the mentee does not apply during their high school senior year, they are allowed to apply later (until the age of 25 even if they are not a current mentee at that time).  However, mentees can only apply one time. Nebraska Press Association Foundation Scholarship Deadline: January 19, 2024 

Eligibility: The scholarship will be given to students with a specific interest in news, editorial, photography, circulation, production or advertising careers at a weekly, semi-weekly, or daily newspaper. The Nebraska-based educational institution involved must offer a curriculum which provides the necessary education so a student graduating from the program is qualified for at least an entry level position in journalism. Nebraskans of World War II Scholarship and Pearl Harbor Remembrance Award  

Deadline:  January 26, 2024 Eligibility:  Both the Scholarship and Award are made available to qualifying seniors from high schools which encompass the hometowns of the twenty-two Nebraska sailors who died at Pearl Harbor.  Award:  Up to four (4) Scholarship for $2,500 & three (3) $1000 Pearl Harbor Remembrance Awards.  Only 2 applications per school will be accepted.  

Coyner and Donna Smith Diversity Scholarship  

Deadline: January 28, 2024 Eligibility: The Mission of the Smith Diversity Scholarship is to provide a post-secondary education to Nebraska’s graduating seniors from underrecognized backgrounds, facing financial barriers, who display academic aptitude, leadership, determination toward goals, and a spirit for making an impact. NMC Sponsorship Program  Deadline: January 31, 2024 Eligibility: Sponsorship opportunity for anyone seeking an associate of applied science degree in the diesel technology program at Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska. Susan Thompson Buffet Foundation Scholarships  Deadline: February 1, 2024

Wayne State College Career Scholars Program 

Deadline: February 1, 2024 Eligibility: The Career Scholars Cooperative Education Program is an accelerated curriculum program that will arm you with the knowledge as well as the soft skills to work in a business during your senior year.  In your first three years at WSC, you'll have the opportunity to engage with participating business partners through site visits, job shadowing, and mentorships. During your senior year, you'll move to Norfolk, Grand Island, or Columbus, where you will earn 18 credit hours by working for a business for approximately 30-40 hours a week over a nine-month period. Great Plains Communications Scholarship  

Deadline: February 1, 2024

 UNO’s Goodrich Scholarship Program  

Deadline: February 1, 2024 Eligibility: The program offers a merit-and-need-based scholarship to students who will attend ONLY the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Elks National Foundation Legacy Award  

Deadline: February 5, 2024 Eligibility: For the 2024 contest, any child or grandchild (or stepchild, step-grandchild, or legal ward) of a living Elk who joined the order on or before April 1, 2021, or a charter member of a Lodge that was instituted on or after April 1, 2021, is eligible to apply. The Elk must also be a paid-up member through March 31, 2024. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. The applicant must be a high school senior. The applicant must apply online only. The Mission of the Smith Diversity Scholarship is to provide a post-secondary education to Nebraska’s graduating seniors from underrecognized backgrounds, facing financial barriers, who display academic aptitude, leadership, determination toward goals, and a spirit for making an impact.

In 2024, we will award four renewable scholarships of $25,000 per year to four-year institutions; and two renewable scholarships of $12,500 per year to two-year trade school institutions. Students can attend any accredited institution.

Due to the flexibility of these funds - which are intended to help students beyond the traditional tuition, books and housing - this is one of the most unique scholarships available in the country.

Please note: 

• Application is open until January 28, 2024.

• No minimum GPA, SAT or ACT requirements.

• Two letters of references requested (minimum one letter of reference required. Requests for references can be made through the submission portal).

• Students will need to upload the following in the application:

  • Essay

  • High School Transcript

  • Proof of Household Income (parent/guardian(s) most recent W-2, most recent Tax Return or FAFSA Submission Summary)

• Applicants must be an ethnic minority with a household income under $65,000.

• Applicants must be a 2024 graduating senior attending a Nebraska public, private, charter school or home school association, or have obtained their GED.

• Applicants must plan to begin their freshman year of post-secondary education the following academic year.

• Applicants do not need to be a U.S. citizen.

• Awards will be announced around April 1, 2024.

Great Plains Communications College Scholarship:  Are you a graduating senior and a customer of GPC? If so, you are eligible to apply for the Great Plains Communications Scholarship! We grant up to 21 scholarships to seniors in Nebraska and Indiana, with amounts ranging from $1000 to $5000. Scholarships are awarded on a one-time basis.

The Foundation for Rural Service is an affiliate of the National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA). The NTCA is an organization of independent telephone companies across the United States.

You’re encouraged to apply if you:

• Are a graduating high school senior

Each State College will select one scholarship recipient from each grade level from the eligible Multi-Activity Award recipients who submit a scholarship application.  The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to attend Chadron, Peru or Wayne State College.
