The Texas State Goal for Services for Gifted and Talented Students:
"Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience or environment. High school graduates who have participated in services for gifted/talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services."
In order to help students meet the state goal, curriculum for students identified for gifted and talented services is aligned to learning standards in the areas of creative thinking, critical thinking, research skills, and social/emotional skills. Within these areas, the Texas Education Agency and gifted experts have identified 10 skills a student receiving gifted services should work to develop while obtaining services. These skills will lead to the development of advanced-level products and/or performances.
An Amarillo ISD G/T Curriculum Team have created these documents to support teachers serving G/T students by addressing recommended skills and relative proficiency with those skills, facilitate consistent communication with parents about enriched curriculum, and document student growth throughout their time in Amarillo ISD.
