How do I sync (Post) grades to Skyward in the Gradebook?
Posting Grades
To send grades to Skyward, you must select the Post Grades button in the Gradebook. The button will not appear unless the Post Grades to SIS checkbox has been selected for at least one assignment.
The gradebook in Skyward must be opened at least once before grade postings will process correctly from Canvas.
If an assignment with an identical name already exists in Skyward, then Canvas will not push any grades; the assignment information will not be duplicated.
Quiz grades are set as point values when sent to Skyward.
If the Assignment Group is changed in Canvas after the assignment is created in Skyward, the grading category does not change.
You can post grades for all sections or an individual section.
If you don't see the Post Grades button in the Gradebook, please confirm the following:
Make sure the course AND section has an SIS ID - This would be a Skyward created course in Canvas that starts with a P.
Make sure at least one published assignment has the Post Grades to SIS checkbox selected
If all of the above is true, contact your Digital Learning Specialist.
Posting Window - When to Post & When NOT to Post
You cannot send grades to a closed grading period - Example: After REPORT CARD period has closed. For example first six weeks has ended you cannot resync grades from 1st six weeks gradebook in Canvas to 1st six weeks in Skyward - this would cause a discrepancy.
Only send for an active report card period - Currently we are in 2nd six weeks - so send only 2nd six weeks items now.
Verify that the assignment names went to Skyward, before re-posting to same class. It can take 5 min to up to an hour, or more, depending on how Skyward and Canvas are running. If you click post over and over without making sure that the first post with new assignment names showed up, Skyward doesn't know that there is a duplicate name, so it goes through as many times as you clicked. You could end up with duplicates or more in the Skyward side. Post often to update your grade book, meaning make sure you are regularly updating your Skyward gradebook, this is where parents are looking for grades. Do not click post several times within a very small time frame if you have added NEW ASSIGNMENT NAMES. It will not make the names show up any faster.
Advice:
Post and verify before re-posting to the same section/sections that assignment names are there
Post once a day (morning or afternoon)
Post twice a day (morning and afternoon), but verify that the morning/afternoon new assignment names went through
Verify.
You can post more often, BUT VERIFY that the assignment names are there before you re-post.
