Response to Intervention (RTI) was created in order to decrease the number of students that are being labeled or identified in Special Education before any interventions have been implemented. RTI helps identify students and provide them with interventions and strategies in order to boost their overall academic and/or behavioral output to ensure that they are not misidentified or misdiagnosed. RTI is multi-tiered and how quickly the student progresses depends on the student as well as the interventions. Through RTI, we are able to focus more on the positive attributes of the student in order to use those strengths to enhance the academic or behavioral areas that have been identified as a weakness.
