Texas Performance Standards Project
Latin Curriculum
Critical Thinking Skills
Social Emotional Skills
In GT, students will delve into 4 areas of curriculum, as seen above.
Students will concentrate on a Texas Performance Standards Project, which they will refer to as their "research project" or TPSP project throughout the year. This project will be worked on in class until our Campus Showcase at the end of the year. Check Google Classroom for more information about your student's project as the year gets started.
For Latin curriculum we use Song School Latin, Latin for Children, and Minimus to introduce the students to the language. Learning Latin roots and how the words relate to commonly used words in English will help boost their vocabulary skills and help decipher unknown words in their future.
Critical Thinking is crucial in today's world! In GT we spend time building these skills while practicing perseverance, grit, creativity, and collaboration so students are ready for whatever problems they need to solve.
Our last area of curriculum is probably the most important: Social / Emotional Skills. This is a time for discussion and reflection to help students with some of the issues they face in their classes and with their peers. From stress to peer conflict, these reflection times are truly beneficial to our students.
Each grade level has their own Google Classroom that we start in 1st grade and will grow with the students all the way through 5th grade. This will allow for the students to look back at all of the work they have completed as they have matured and changed over the years. Parents, please feel free to have your student log in and show you what we have been working on! You can also sign up to receive parent updates from Google Classroom in regards to assignments, if you wish.
Our Google Classroom pages will be where we complete most of our work. If your student needs help logging in, please be sure to have them email me so we can get them set up correctly.
