B: Experimental
Please FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW for the EXPERIMENTAL pathway:
Step 1:
The student investigation is driven by a problem and/or a question. The independent research portion of the project should focus on the Science involved within the experiment; the researched information should support the introduction, data analysis, and conclusion.
Step 2:
The student seeks to solve the problem and/or answer the question through the collection of evidence (data).
Step 3:
The student produces a lab write-up/report following the Scientific Method.
Step 4:
Data collected through the experiment must be quantitative and must be based on 5-10 trials.
Step 5:
The product of the project includes data collection and a formal lab report.
Check out THIS WEBSITE for help on writing a lab report.
REQUIREMENTS:
To get started, please read carefully through the Alvin ISD STEM Fair Framework for detailed information (including required completed forms), expectations, and deadlines.
Students will choose a topic and a STEM Fair pathway. (See Research Site for assistance on selecting a topic)
STEM FAIR PATHWAYS (Click the links below to learn more about each pathway)
A: Engineering B: Experimental C: Community Advocacy
Once a topic and pathway is chosen, students will work throughout the year supported by teachers in order to meet expectations and deadlines associated with the project. Each student must complete the following Google Forms:
Alvin ISD STEM Fair Entry Form Risk Assessment Form Human Subject Form
Each campus will have a campus-level STEM Fair as part of the campus' Independent Research Project Showcase event (January or February 2023) where a selected number of students will be chosen to represent their projects at the district level.
The Alvin ISD STEM Fair (district-level) will be held February 29, 2024 pm from 5 - 7 pm @ Liberty Hall in Iowa Colony.
The Alvin ISD STEM Fair offers a unique opportunity for students to display and communicate their scientific research, findings, and/or solutions. The Alvin ISD STEM Fair welcomes our community members to celebrate the students' successes; furthermore, the event offers an opportunity to recognize students' hard work with the project process and the culmination of a final product.
If a student wants to participate in the Houston area STEM Fair, the student will need to meet the expectations of both Alvin ISD STEM Fair and the Houston STEM Fair (SEFH). The student will need to communicate to their teacher the plan to participate in SEFH. For more information, click HERE.
