Black Queen
"Black Queen, represents the lives of women in my region. I have witnessed many sacrifices that women have to make for society to grow healthy, most of the people who are alive right now have passed through the hands of a woman, they give us life and heal us as much as they can until we are able to heal ourselves. The long hair of the woman in the painting represents the burden she carries and is tied with a crown (handmade African crown), she looks a bit terrified because she cares too much about the people she brought into this brutal world, luckily because being a queen is in her nature, the crown helps her to keep the burdens together and carry them so easily."

ABANDONED
Abandoned tells the story of a couple who have chosen love over societal expectations. As an artist, I’ve often encountered the harsh reality that, in many wealthy African families, art is not seen as a worthy pursuit—especially when it comes to marriage. This painting reflects the struggles faced by a man and woman deeply in love but judged by her family for choosing a life with an artist.
The man, a painter, and the woman, a violinist, sit together in an abandoned house, a metaphor for the isolation they feel from society. She comes from a well-off family, and while her parents wanted her to marry someone more "respectable," she has stayed by her partner’s side, finding strength in their bond despite the pressures.
This piece is about love, resilience, and choosing passion over prestige. It speaks to the strong woman who, despite societal judgment, decided to embrace their shared life—no matter the challenges.

The canvas, textured with burnt magazine papers in a rich black hue, encapsulates the intensity of the artist's emotional connection to the musical realm. Within the deep, layered strokes, the essence of a musician's soul unfolds—a commitment to a lifetime immersed in the symphony of artistic expression. Niyogisubizo's skilled brushwork captures the passion and dedication, inviting viewers to resonate with the profound journey of living through the harmonies that echo across the canvas.

King Yuhi V Musinga - The Silent Strategist
This artwork tells the story of my ancestor, King Yuhi V Musinga, who ruled Rwanda from 1896 to 1931 during one of the most complex times in our history. Known for his strategic resistance to colonial powers, Musinga was a leader who understood the delicate balance of protecting his people and traditions. He faced immense pressure from the Belgian colonizers but chose not to openly rebel—a decision shaped by the warning King Rumanyika of Karagwe gave to his father: “If you rebel, they will destroy you.”
Musinga did not submit to colonial rule; he resisted quietly and with foresight. He ensured that Rwanda’s culture was never erased, ordering his army to greet the colonizers not in foreign uniforms, but in Imikenyero, our traditional attire. Though he avoided direct confrontation, his passive resistance preserved the sanctity of Rwanda's traditions and protected his people from the devastation of war.
Even when the Belgians plotted to remove him, Musinga stayed true to his values, refusing to be baptized into the Roman Catholic faith despite pressure. His strength lay not in warfare but in his commitment to safeguarding Rwanda’s future. He knew that his son, Mutara III Rudahigwa, was the one who could continue that legacy.
King Musinga’s story is one of wisdom, quiet defiance, and deep love for Rwanda. His reign, though cut short, ensured that our culture, traditions, and values endured through one of the most difficult periods in Rwandan history.

Queen Dowager Rosalie Gicada.
Queen Dowager Rosalie Gicanda (1928[2] – 20 April 1994) was the wife of Rwandan King (Kinyarwanda: mwami) Mutara III Rudahigwa. After her husband died in mysterious circumstances in 1959, the Rwandan monarchy lasted only two more years, under the leadership of King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa and then coming to an end with the Rwandan Revolution in 1961. However, the Queen continued to live in Butare in Butare Province, Rwanda, along with her mother and several ladies-in-waiting, where she was later murdered during the Rwandan genocide.

The change 1
Everyman kind grows up with a vision to either do good, help travel, win, or laugh be that version. But the more you grow older, you realize that this isn't the person you always dreamed to be. I got beat up by life that forged me into a weapon that sometimes not only saves but kills. So you start working on getting back to that version that you always wanted to be before you got here. That's the progress to change.

Street Sophistication: Breaking Walls
In "Breaking Walls," a poignant addition to Elisa Niyogisubizo's Street Sophistication collection, the artist unveils her life mission—raising awareness on adoption in Rwanda and across Africa. Crafted with acrylic on newspapers, the black hues emphasize the stark reality of street life. The front view of a young child, emblematic of countless others, portrays a poignant narrative of innocence eclipsed by adversity. Through this evocative piece, Niyogisubizo challenges traditional myths surrounding adoption, striving to dismantle the barriers that hinder understanding. EMMA BAKAYISHONGA.

Emma Bakayishongo and Queen Gicanda do look similar. They both had high cheekbones, almond-shaped eyes, and full lips.Princess Emma Bakayishongo, wears a traditional "icyanganga" headband across her forehead.

It is seen as a way to honor and celebrate Rwandan culture and traditions, and many women take great pride in wearing it.Queen Gicanda was the queen mother of Rwanda from 1931 to 1959. She was the wife of Mutara III Rudahigwa. She was a powerful and influential figure in Rwandan society.

What can I do
Many times we take quick decisions in our daily problems without thinking twice. How many time do we pray God before doing anything else. This is a story of an imprisoned man who tried to escape from jail because of family issues but he was gun shouted by the prison guiders. He stayed in prison with hopeless thoughts after leaving hospital but he remembered what he studied in church to tell everything God and remain in hope. He prayed and one day he got forgiveness. So what can I do when anyone else around me doesn't care me?
